HIGHEST PAYOUT CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT IN OHIO

Dustin Fox Cornhole Tournament

IPG Marketing Home to Slick Woody's Cornhole Company

If you’re looking for a high payout cornhole tournament check this out. The 2016 Dustin Fox Cornhole Tournament Benefitting The Buckeye Cruise for Cancer and Urban & Shelley Meyer Fund just paid out $3,700 in winnings on Sunday 8/14/16. The top team took home $2,000!!

Dustin Fox teamed up with Slick Woody’s Cornhole Co., who hosted the event and provided the equipment, and Pumpkinhead, the Entertainer in Chief who brought the beats and the eats to put together this awesome inaugural event.

Even the 7 time World Cornhole Champion Matt Guy was in attendance to keep an eye on some up and coming competition. Although the weather was a bit wet for the better part of the day, the parking lot party rolled on and was an absolute success.

All to Beat Cancer

This high payout cornhole tournament provided more than just fun. All of the proceeds are being donated to The Buckeye Cruise for Cancer and Urban & Shelley Meyer Fund. The Buckeye Cruise also provided a slew of items for the Silent Auction that was held on Sunday. Up for grabs were two Urban Meyer autographed helmets, Chris Spielman autographed photo, Kirk Herbstreit signed football and much more. Check out legendary Ohio State alum Tom Cousineau above signing some memorabilia!

All in all the auction brought in about $4,000! Not bad for a rainy Sunday afternoon!

The Buckeye Cruise also donated $1,000 cash prize that was raffled off near the end of the event! They made somebody smile pretty big. The Cruise had representatives at the event and said it was one of the better events they have been to and can’t wait to help out next year when we do it all again.

Pumpkin Nation Brings the Party

Pumpkinhead and Pumpkin Nation provide the entertainment for the Dustin Fox Cornhole Tournament

Two words… Professional Tailgaters!! These boys know how to bring the party! Full disclosure, I’m a huge Browns fan. Nothing got me more geeked on Sunday than when I was setting up the event with my staff and I look out and see Pumpkinhead pull into our parking lot. Dude’s got a massive trailer, custom wrapped with Browns graphics and of course images of the man, the myth, the legend himself… Pumpkinhead.

Seriously can’t thank Pumpkin Nation enough for bringing a little taste of the best Browns tailgate to this cornhole tournament.  These guys blasted tunes all day and kept the party going. They provided the food and the best atmosphere we could’ve asked for. You can catch this tailgate party every week on the back Patio of The Barley House in Cleveland during all home Browns games.

The Rain Didn’t Matter

Rain or shine Slick Woody's Cornhole Company board sets play best

When we pictured this event, we weren’t thinking about rain. This summer has been so hot and dry we didn’t think it would ever rain here again. But of course, Murphy’s Law kicks in. Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.

It started with the weather. Then we realized we were short on some supplies. No biggie,  just a trip to the store for a few of the essentials and we were good. Then the unthinkable happened: we created the double elimination bracket with too few teams! Now I’m stressed. I’ve got players coming up to me saying they’re not in the bracket and they didn’t know what court to play on… absolute disaster. After the first round sorted itself out though, the tournament was running smooth.

I was able to step out and watch some of the action. I’ve been in the cornhole industry for a very long time and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing: cornhole being played in a downpour and the equipment holding up. I mean I’ve played cornhole in the rain before, and it’s always become a different version of the game. Normally the boards are too sticky and the bags get filthy.

Not this time. Players were actually saying that the boards were a bit slicker than normal. Once again Slick Woody’s delivers the most consistent playing surface in the game. It was the first time I’ve ever seen cornhole play continue normally in the elements. I think most of the players were even surprised.

Shoutout to the Headliner

The main man Dustin Fox at the Slick Woody's event Dustin Fox Cornhole Tournament

Dustin Fox, what more can I say. He brought the house down. I’m so glad he brought this idea to the table. When we first talked about holding this event I didn’t know what to expect. But as we moved forward, two things were obvious:

  • The Urban & Shelley Meyer Fund benefitting the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus is something he is very passionate about.
  • We were going to have a blast!

  • He kept telling me we were going to be good and not to worry about the weather. And he was right. Even though the weather came, it didn’t matter; I didn’t have to worry about it because he turned it into a positive. In a weird way I think he was right. At the end of the day on Sunday he said that people who attended the event will always remember playing outside in a downpour. It’s one of those things that they’ll never forget.

I can’t believe what was pulled off in a such a short period of time and in some tough weather.  We will have a year to plan the next one and I can’t imagine what it will be like!!

    Last But Not Least

Dustin Fox Cornhole Tournament sponsors Perrino Builders Nissan North Olmstead Clear Choice Lasik

Last but not least I want to thank our sponsors. Without all of them this event would’ve never happened. I want to give a special thanks to a few of the top donors including Perrino Builders for being the title sponsor and Nissan North Olmstead, “Cuz the deals are so good!”. I want to give a special thanks to Clear Choice Lasik for being the gaming sponsor and providing tailgate tables for some flip cup and beer pong under the tents.

This was an awesome inaugural event and we can’t wait until next year. Check back throughout the year at dustinfoxcornhole.com for updated information. Follow @slickwoodys@DustinFox37 @PumpkinNation on Twitter for news as it happens.
